Rendang Daging
A rich curry of braised beef slowly cooked in coconut and Indonesian spice paste. A tender, flavorful dish that is iconic throughout the archipelago.

Ingredients
- 800 g Beef chuck
- 400 ml Coconut milk
- 4 piece Red onions
- 4 clove Garlic
- 3 cm Fresh ginger
- 3 piece Red chili
- 2 cm Galangal
- 2 piece Lemongrass stalk
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Ground turmeric
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
Step 1
Peel and thinly slice the red onions, garlic, ginger, and red chilies.
Step 2
Prepare curry paste by blending onions, garlic, ginger, chilies, galangal, and lemongrass with 100 ml of coconut milk.
Step 3
Heat coconut oil in a Dutch oven and sear the meat in batches.
Step 4
Add the curry paste and cook for 3 minutes, stirring.
Step 5
Pour in the remaining coconut milk, add turmeric, soy sauce, and salt.
Step 6
Simmer covered for 40 minutes until the meat is tender and the sauce is reduced.
