Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Cook the penne in salted boiling water for about 9 minutes (al dente). Drain.

Cut the ham into small pieces and grate the Gruyère.

Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour and mix (roux).

Gradually pour in the water while stirring to create a smooth sauce.
