Konafa
An Egyptian classic: delicate crispy pastry layered with crushed nuts and honey perfumed with orange blossom water.
Ingredients
- 400 g Konafa pastry
- 250 g Crushed walnuts
- 100 g Crushed pistachios
- 250 ml Liquid honey
- 100 g Melted butter
- 2 tbsp Orange blossom water
- 100 ml Water
- 50 g Powdered sugar
- 0.5 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the filling: mix the crushed walnuts and pistachios with cinnamon and sugar.
Step 2
Preheat oven to 180°C. Gently loosen the konafa pastry with your fingers to fluff it up.
Step 3
Arrange half of the pastry in a buttered baking dish.
Step 4
Spread the nut filling evenly over the pastry.
Step 5
Layer the remaining pastry on top. Drizzle generously with melted butter.
Step 6
Bake for 20 minutes until the konafa is golden brown.
Step 7
Prepare the syrup: heat the honey with water, lemon juice, and orange blossom water.
Step 8
Pour the hot syrup over the konafa immediately after removing from the oven. Let cool before serving.
