Makrout
Traditional Algerian pastry made with semolina, filled with dates, and dipped in honey.

Ingredients
- 250 g Fine semolina
- 200 g Pitted dates
- 100 g Butter
- 80 ml Water
- 200 g Honey
- 50 g Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 0.5 tsp Cinnamon
- 500 ml Sunflower oil
- une pincée pinch Salt
Instructions
Step 1
Mix the semolina, sugar, salt, and vanilla in a bowl.
Step 2
Add the melted butter and water gradually while mixing until you get a granular paste.
Step 3
Reduce the dates to a puree and mix with cinnamon.
Step 4
Shape small diamond pieces with the semolina and fill the center with the date filling.
Step 5
Heat the oil to 170°C and fry the makrout until golden brown.
Step 6
Immediately dip in warm honey and let drain.
