Makroudh with Dates and Walnuts
Small Algerian shortbread cookies filled with date paste, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Ingredients
- 250 g Flour
- 100 g Fine semolina
- 150 g Soft butter
- 200 g Pitted dates
- 50 g Crushed walnuts
- 50 g Sugar
- 1 piece Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 pinch Salt
- 100 ml Honey
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the filling: blend the dates with the walnuts until you have a thick paste.
Step 2
Mix the soft butter with the sugar and egg until you have a light cream.
Step 3
Add the flour, semolina, vanilla, and salt. Knead until you have a homogeneous dough.
Step 4
Shape into small balls, flatten them slightly, and fill with date paste. Close and flatten.
Step 5
Bake in a preheated 180°C oven for 15-20 minutes until golden.
Step 6
Dip the warm makroudh into warm honey. Let cool on parchment paper.
