Authentic Mac and Cheese
The ultimate American comfort food: elbow macaroni coated in a rich and creamy triple-cheddar cheese sauce.
Ingredients
- 400 g Elbow macaroni
- 250 g Aged Cheddar
- 150 g Mild White Cheddar
- 100 g Grated Gruyère
- 50 g Butter
- 500 ml Whole milk
- 3 tbsp Flour
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 pinch Nutmeg
- selon goût g Salt and pepper
- 50 g Breadcrumbs
Instructions
Step 1
Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
Step 2
Make a roux: melt 50g butter, add flour and cook for 1 minute without browning, stirring constantly.
Step 3
Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Let thicken for 3 minutes.
Step 4
Remove from heat. Add the three grated cheeses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Stir until completely melted.
Step 5
Fold the macaroni into the sauce. Pour into a baking dish. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs mixed with 1 tbsp melted butter.
Step 6
Bake at 200°C for 10-12 minutes until the top is golden.
