Shrimp and Okra Gumbo
A classic Cajun dish with a dark brown roux, succulent shrimp, and okra in a savory broth served over rice.

Ingredients
- 500 g Shrimp
- 300 g Fresh okra
- 3 tbsp Flour
- 3 tbsp Sunflower oil
- 2 piece Onion
- 2 stalks Celery
- 1 piece Red bell pepper
- 400 ml Canned tomatoes
- 1 l Fish stock
- 2 tsp Cajun spices
- 250 g White rice
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
Step 1
Cook the white rice with 500ml of salted water for 18 minutes.
Step 2
In a large pot, make a roux with the flour and oil, stirring constantly until it reaches a dark brown color (about 10 minutes).
Step 3
Add the onion, celery, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes.
Step 4
Pour in the stock and canned tomatoes. Bring to a boil.
Step 5
Add the sliced okra and Cajun spices. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 6
Add the shrimp and cook for 5 minutes until they change color.
Step 7
Serve the gumbo over white rice.
