French Potato and Carrot Gratin
A generous French classic with layers of potatoes and carrots bound with butter and flour for a comforting, satisfying dish.

Ingredients
- 800 g Potatoes
- 300 g Carrots
- 40 g Flour
- 60 g Butter
- 400 ml Water
- 1 tsp Salt
- 0.5 tsp Pepper
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and carrots.
Step 2
Melt the butter in a pot and sprinkle the flour over it to create a roux.
Step 3
Gradually add the water while stirring to create a smooth sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 4
Pour a layer of sauce into a gratin dish, then alternate layers of vegetables and sauce.
Step 5
Finish with a layer of sauce and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
