Egyptian Falafel
Crispy fritters made with chickpeas, onions, garlic, and Mediterranean spices, served with homemade tahini sauce.
Ingredients
- 250 g Dried chickpeas
- 1 medium Onion
- 4 clove Garlic
- 1/2 bunch Fresh parsley
- 1/4 bunch Fresh cilantro
- 4 tbsp Flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1/2 tsp Ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne pepper
- 3 tbsp Tahini
- 1 fruit Lemon
- 500 ml Frying oil
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
Step 1
Soak dried chickpeas for 12 hours or use thawed frozen chickpeas (DO NOT use canned).
Step 2
Finely chop onion, garlic, parsley, and cilantro.
Step 3
In a food processor, blend cooked-mashed chickpeas, onion, garlic, and herbs until you get a granular paste.
Step 4
Add flour, baking powder, cumin, ground coriander, cayenne, salt, and pepper, mix well.
Step 5
Form balls with wet hands or two spoons.
Step 6
Heat oil to 170°C and fry falafel for 3-4 minutes until golden.
Step 7
Drain on paper towels.
Step 8
Prepare sauce: mix tahini, lemon juice, and a little water to get a smooth sauce.
Step 9
Serve warm falafel with tahini sauce.
